At Navolutions, we want to make the internet a better place. That’s why we’re offering a $500 scholarship to a very special student who does their part to help us bury Internet Explorer, once and for all.
What’s Wrong with Internet Explorer?
Internet Explorer causes more web design and development problems than any other browser. Unlike modern browsers, such as Chrome and Firefox, Internet Explorer does not automatically update its oldest versions, which is why 11% of the US still uses internet Explorer 8. These older versions of Internet Explorer suffer from poor security and performance, and do not support many modern and common web design elements.
Each version of Internet Explorer also has its own unique set of design standards that make websites look totally different than they do in other browsers – or even in other versions of Internet Explorer. Retrofitting a website to look consistent in every version of Internet Explorer can take dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of hours, prompting one retailer to actually charge a 6.8% tax on Internet Explorer users.
These workarounds also have the unfortunate side effect of adding otherwise unnecessary code to countless websites. The vast majority of websites you visit load just a little bit slower, and take up just a little more bandwidth, thanks to Internet Explorer.

How Do I Enter?
To enter, write a 300-1000 word essay, or publish a 1-5 minute video on Youtube, telling us about a time that you successfully made someone (or several people) switch from Internet Explorer to a better browser. Entries will be judged on presentation, content, and overall creativity. All entries must be received by June 1st, 2015.
The Fine Print
Eligibility
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the US. He or she cannot be an employee of, or a relative of an employee of, Navolutions.
Qualifications
Applicant must be a current student and have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.5. Applicant must also enroll at an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university during the fall 2015 semester.
Description of Funds
The recipient will receive a one-time scholarship of $500 to be applied to qualified expenses, including graduate and undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board for the 2014-2015 academic year. Funds are provided by Navolutions and made payable to the student’s approved college or university no later than August 1, 2015.
College or University Approval
The institution must be accredited and listed on the official website of the U.S. Department of Education. Applicants attending military academies are eligible for this scholarship. All school transfers are subject to accreditation approval.
Conditions of Award
If the applicant or the applicant’s parent/legal guardian or immediate relative is employed by Navoltions at the time of award, the student is no longer eligible and will forfeit the scholarship.
Winner Selection and Announcements
The three finalists will be selected after a team of judges reviews all entries. All entries must be received by June 1st, 2015. The winner will be announced on July 1st. Applicants will be judged on the creativity, writing skill, and content of their submission.
Responsibilities of Recipients
The recipient must be actively enrolled for the Fall 2015 semester without interruption, barring illness, emergency or military service. It is the recipient’s responsibility to verify receipt of funds with their institution and notify Navolutions if the check is not awarded by the institution within 30 days of the issue date. Navolutions reserves the right to alter or discontinue this program at any time without notice. All entries become the property of Navolutions and may be reposted or reused, in whole or in part, in any medium.
